BIOGRAPHY

Taylor King is a passionate, experienced dancer and educator with a deep love for the art of movement. With over 13 years of dance experience, and just almost 4 years of dance teaching experience, she has a strong background in various dance styles including jazz, hip hop, modern, and more. She holds an Associates of Arts degree from Austin Community College, and is currently a senior at Texas State University. She is on track to graduate in the fall of 2025 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a minor in Education. Her goal is to be able to teach dance and drill teams at the high school level. Born in New Jersey, but currently based in Austin, TX, Taylor serves as a performer and choreographer for a company called DivaDance. Here, Taylor is able to teach choreography-based classes for adults while also being able to inspire and empower dancers of all levels.Taylor didn’t grow up dancing as a kid, but instead found her love for dance in high school. During her freshman year and all throughout the rest of her time in high school, she was actively involved and served on the drill team called ‘The Strutters’. Dance was something that she never expected to do, let alone become passionate about and make it her career. She is super grateful that she found dance when she did and knows that this form of art movement was always meant for her.

Her choreographic work has been featured at large dance events, including conferences in Las Vegas and Nashville. In her first year at DivaDance, she was recognized as the Rising Star Instructor, followed by an even greater honor—being named Worldwide 2023 Instructor of the Year out of 50 franchise locations across the country. She has had the opportunity to work with and choreograph for local ATX artists’ music videos such as “Sheesh” by Marlie, and also has had the experience of a lifetime not only performing for, but also choreographing the halftime performance for the San Antonio Spurs basketball game in 2024. Additionally, She has successfully choreographed and directed numerous dance performances, recitals, parades, and competitions, showcasing the talent and dedication of those she works with.

Taylor is dedicated to providing a supportive and inspiring learning environment where her students can develop their technical skills, creativity, and self expression through dance. Taylor believes in fostering a love for dance in people and helping them reach their full potential as dancers. She hopes to continue to progress in her art and skill and to strive for much bigger goals, such as choreographing larger-scale performances, expanding her teaching opportunities, and one day performing for big named artists. All while continuing to inspire others.

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Dance is something that has deeply inspired me and pushes me to be a better version of myself, on and off the dance floor. I've learned to challenge myself in ways I never thought possible, by taking risks and exploring new territories. The connections I make, not only with myself, but with other dancers is something I cherish deeply. Dance is about community and bringing people together, no matter what we look like or where we come from. It’s incredibly special when I can help someone find their love and passion for dance, guiding them to step out of their comfort zones and reach new limits. Watching a dancer discover something new within themselves, whether it’s their confidence, their strength, or just their pure joy, reminds me why I do this. My goal is to continue growing as a dancer, creating spaces where dancers feel seen, challenged and inspired. I want to also continue to tap into the most vulnerable parts of myself let that shine through my art and love of dance

TEACHING STATMENT

As a dancer and choreographer who loves to teach and share my love for dance with others, I believe anyone is capable of stepping into the world of dance and embracing their very own uniqueness. No matter what their background of dance may be. I strive to help other dancers find their footing, confidence, and growth in dance. My first approach to teaching is aiming to create a warm and welcoming environment in every class, where others feel safe, included, and heard. I always like to encourage my dancers to tap into their curiosity by letting it be known that it is safe and highly recommended that they ask questions. That they challenge themselves by taking risks and stepping out of their comfort zones. Freedom in dance is also something that I instill in my dancers. Giving them a chance to explore and experiment, or be spontaneous and to see where that may lead them. I think it's important because it teaches dancers to trust themselves. Through that trust in themselves, my dancers are able to learn more about and develop their own artistic voices. They continue to push themselves, climbing the ladder much higher than before. My technique classes emphasize unison and how a group moving together can create something much bigger. At the same time, I push my students to bring their own grit, energy, and emotion to every piece, valuing their individuality. In my classes, we focus on sharp, dynamic movements, precision and control while exploring different textures to bring choreography to life. Musicality is key. I encourage my dancers to really feel the music and not just hear it. This helps so that their movements connect with the beats, lyrics, and instrumentation in a way that’s intentional and full of purpose. In the end, I want all of my students to leave my classes feeling confident, inspired, and refreshed. I want to ignite a passion that keeps them coming back and always ready to continue pushing themselves, all while reaching new limits. I hope to continue always sharing my love for dance with the world.
